Payet cause of drop in form.
Payet has a reputation for causing trouble in the dressing room. Maybe that coupled with his drop in form is the problem.

"The view in France is that, while he's an exceedingly talented player, Payet is also capable of causing rifts in the dressing room"

Perhaps him moving to Man U is a good thing.

Re: Payet wants to leave.... Breaking SSN: 'Payet has handed in a transfer request'
There is a well known sporting stat in the USA where the norm is that when your star player finally retires or leaves, despite fears, the results improve. Something to do with the other players having to look at themselves rather than to the star. This is our biggest hope right now, along with some good signings too.

I said it before Xmas - sell the lazy mercenary. Move on.

Now can you all see how right I was....

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
Bigger clubs can afford to let a £125k pw player rot in the reserves but we cannot.

Just sell him to the highest bidder and move on.

This doesn't have to be as complicated as it is.

HE Has been tapped up,no doubt in my mind, little shit has signed three contracts in a year for more money each time, unless someone comes in with silly money let him rot in oblivion for five years and see how he likes that.

Got it up and down brilliantly. Keeper showed him where to put it though, which still ain't easy, but he makes it look so.

calm down gph, as i said, taking nothing away from the free kick.

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
The keeper's positioning wasn't very good for saving that free-kick.

Who's to say that if his positioning had been different, Payet wouldn't have tried something else, or been a little closer to the stanchion?

You can only beat who you're up against, as the old saying goes

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
keeper stood a great chance if he had positioned himself better, he got a hand to it. taking nothing away from the fk but if that was our keeper id be a tiny bit miffed that he didnt get more on it.

Brilliant free-kick yesterday, keeper didn't stand a chance.

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
in simple terms he is our #1 key player going forward. everything good goes through him and his set pieces are hugely important.

without him we would be proper fucked.

he hasnt hit last seasons heights, but people have wised up and dont let him turn. plus he has zero movement when he looks up.

Some on here will moan till he's gone and then they can have a good moan about the pile of junk that the Payet money is spent on. In fact I think some just like a moan.

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
The more the bloke looks like being our only danger, the more the opposition can concentrate on neutralising that danger.

A bit more menace from the rest of the team and he'll get space and weave his magic.

Simple not enough free kicks being given form 25 yards.

with baggins on this one. first player on the team sheet for me.

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
He's playing alongside fellow midfielders who have largely been average/poor this season and until recently didn't have a single striker feeding off of his balls.

Zaza has been pants, so doesn't count as being a striker!

Bloke isn't Messi, he needs support.

Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
I don't think anyone is saying he's played shit this season. Just the way he used to light up every game and seemingly do something incredible every 5 minutes like last season, just hasn't carried over. The free kick yesterday kind of brought that back, but it's nothing like last season. If I say season once more I'm gonna go dizzy so I'll leave it there.

Baggins 11:23 Mon Dec 12
Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
Indeed Mashed, son.

And I don't think it's true that he has been "nowhere near" last seasons level of performance. I think it's a very easy thing to say because we are near the bottom of the league and so people say it and it gets repeated until it becomes "FACT".

Anyone who has watched us though should know where our problems lie.

"I remember threads on here at the back end of the season saying he should be dropped,"

We read all sorts of bollocks on here, doesn't make it true.

Baggins 11:10 Mon Dec 12
Re: Payet cause of drop in form.
PD - That's absolute nonsense.

As I say, you seem to be implying last season he was some kind of attacking god. He wasn't. I remember threads on here at the back end of the season saying he should be dropped, which suggests he was hardly on "another level". WHO memories seem to be very short indeed.

He's been our best attacking player this season, by some way. He is crucial to us getting out of the shit we are in.
